How to start playing golf

Starting golf is much easier than most people think. At the beginning, you do not need your own equipment or any experience. Just come to your first training and calmly learn the basics, preferably with a PGA coach. No pressure, no stress, and at your own pace. Golf is a sport you can learn at almost any age. Want to see if golf is for you? Feel free to get in touch and keep exploring golf on this website.

What does the first golf training look like?

The first training is a relaxed introduction to golf. At the beginning, I show the most important elements of the game: how to hold the club, how to set up to the ball, and what the golf swing looks like. The training takes place in a friendly atmosphere and is tailored to people who are just starting out. Most beginners hit the ball during their very first session and begin to understand what golf is all about.

Do I need my own equipment?

No. For your first training session, you do not need your own golf clubs or balls. Equipment is available on site. Comfortable clothes and sports shoes are enough. It is best to buy your own equipment only when you decide that you want to play regularly.

Is golf difficult at the beginning?

Golf requires patience, but the beginnings are much easier than most people think. You do not need great strength or any sports experience. The most important thing at the beginning is to calmly learn the basics and become familiar with the game. Everything else comes gradually with each training session.

How much does it cost to start playing golf?

Starting golf does not require a big investment at the beginning. The costs are comparable to tennis and much lower than skiing. For your first training sessions, you do not need to buy your own equipment or join a golf club. This allows you to try golf in a relaxed way and decide later if you want to continue developing your game. Details about training sessions and prices can be found in the pricing section.

Where do the training sessions take place?

Training sessions take place in Wroclaw and nearby areas — at driving ranges and golf courses. The best location is usually chosen after a short conversation, because it depends on your skill level, the type of training, and the most convenient location for you.

What is the Green Card?

The Green Card is a certificate confirming basic knowledge of golf rules and safety on the golf course. In most cases, it is required to play independently on a golf course. The course includes learning the basics, practical training sessions, and a final exam.

What does green fee mean?

Green fee is the fee paid for playing on a golf course. It works similarly to an entry ticket for a tennis court or a ski slope. The price depends on the golf course, the day of the week, and the tee time.

How long does a round of golf take?

A full round of golf on an 18-hole course usually takes around 4–5 hours. Beginners very often start with shorter training sessions on the putting green and driving range or with a 9-hole round, which takes much less time. First golf training sessions usually last around 90 minutes.

Is golf only for rich people?

This is one of the most common myths about golf. Starting golf does not require large expenses — at the beginning, you do not need to buy your own equipment or pay for a golf club membership. The cost of first training sessions is comparable to many other individual sports.

Can I come to a training session with another person?

Yes. Many people start playing golf together — with a partner, friend, or family member. Training together often helps beginners feel more comfortable and gives extra motivation to continue playing.

golf ball icon Philosophy: I do not teach one perfect golf swing for everyone. Every person feels movement differently and starts their golf journey in their own way, which is why I adapt the training session to the individual and their pace. During training, I look for a way of playing that feels natural, comfortable, and effective for you. This helps the game become more enjoyable faster, while your shots become more consistent.

golf ball icon About me: I help people who have never played golf before take their first steps in a calm and comfortable way. For almost 20 years, I have worked with beginners starting from zero, couples learning together, and players looking for more structure in their technique and training. The most important thing for me is that after the session, you know what to practice next and why. Training sessions take place at golf courses in and around Wroclaw — details are arranged during contact.

golf ball icon Want to see if golf is for you? I treat the first training session as a smooth introduction to a new sport. I provide the equipment, a simple training plan, and clear instructions so that from the very beginning you know how to hold the club, set up to the ball, and make your first shots. Let me know whether you are starting from zero, coming back to golf after a break, or looking to improve your game. This allows me to suggest the best type of training, the approximate length of the first session, and the most convenient location right away.

Golf in Wroclaw

Golf in Wroclaw is growing rapidly and attracts more people every year who want to try something new. In and around Wroclaw, you can find 18-hole golf courses, 9-hole courses, and driving ranges where you can start learning golf, train regularly, or simply spend active time outdoors.

For beginners, the best place to start is a driving range at a golf course. It is a practice facility where you can calmly learn the basics of the golf swing and become familiar with the game without pressure. This is where most first golf training sessions take place, together with practice on the putting green.

Golf can be treated both as a sport and as a form of recreation. More and more people choose it as a way to relax actively after work, take a break from everyday routines, and spend time outdoors. It is a sport that can be started at almost any age.

Golf course – a place where a full game of golf is played. It usually consists of eighteen holes of different lengths and difficulty levels. The goal of the game is to get the ball into the hole using as few shots as possible. A golf course combines sport, walking, and contact with nature.

Driving range – a practice facility where golfers hit balls over longer distances. It is the best place to start learning golf. Here you can comfortably practice the basics, your first shots, and learn how different golf clubs work.

Putting green – a specially prepared part of the golf course with very short grass, designed for practicing putting, the shortest and most precise shots played close to the hole.

Chipping green – a practice area designed for training short shots played around the green. This is where players learn distance control, precision, and the so-called short game, which is extremely important during a round of golf.

Golf facts

Did you know that golf was once banned?

In 1457, King James II of Scotland banned golf because people were spending time playing football and golf instead of practicing archery. At that time, Scotland was at war with England. The ban was lifted in 1502 after the signing of the Treaty of Glasgow. In the same year, King James IV, a great fan of the sport, officially purchased his first set of golf clubs.

Was golf once played in the streets?

Yes. As early as the 13th century, people in the Netherlands and Denmark played a game called colf, considered one of the ancestors of modern golf. The game involved hitting a wooden ball toward a chosen target. Interestingly, it was played not only in the streets, but even on ice during winter.

Were golf balls really once filled with feathers?

Yes. Before modern plastics appeared, the first golf balls were made of leather and filled with goose feathers. They were very expensive — sometimes costing more than the golf club itself. A breakthrough came in the 19th century with gutta-percha, a resin from exotic trees. Interestingly, the same material was once used for things like revolver grips in the Wild West, and dentists still use it today during root canal treatment. Golfers also quickly noticed that scratched balls traveled farther than perfectly smooth ones. That is why modern golf balls have their characteristic dimples. Today, a golf ball cannot weigh more than 45.93 grams and must have a minimum diameter of 42.67 mm.

Has golf ever been played on the Moon?

Yes. In 1971, astronaut Alan Shepard from the Apollo 14 mission became the first and only person to play golf on the Moon. He attached a 6-iron golf club head to a tool used by astronauts and hit the balls one-handed while wearing a stiff spacesuit. For years he joked that the balls traveled “miles”, but later video analysis showed that one flew about 24 meters and the other just under 40.

If you’ve read this far, you probably take the idea seriously. Let’s make one small step for mankind — and one giant step for your new hobby: mention the code APOLLO14 when you contact me and I’ll give you 10% off your full Green Card golf course.

Was there a golf course in Wroclaw before World War II?

Yes. In 1927, a 9-hole golf course was built in Wroclaw and designed by Bernhard von Limburger, one of the best German golfers of that time. The club initially had nearly one hundred members, but the course was closed as early as 1933. To this day, the exact reason for its closure remains unknown. After it was shut down, many players moved to Bad Salzbrunn, known today as Szczawno-Zdrój near Wałbrzych.

Why did golf disappear from Poland after World War II?

After World War II, the communist authorities considered golf to be an elite and “bourgeois” sport that did not fit the image of the working class people of Polish cities and villages. Golf courses disappeared from Poland for many years, and golf became associated with the stereotype of a sport only for the wealthy. Interestingly, even before the war, some golf courses were used not only by businessmen and doctors, but also by ordinary residents and workers. Despite the passing years, some of these old stereotypes still exist today.

I treat the Green Card course as practical preparation for independent play on a golf course. In addition to learning the basic rules and safety, you go through real on-course situations such as pace of play, golf etiquette, decision-making, and the fundamental shots needed during your first round.
